Success story of how you can apply visa for Canada on your own - Get Full Details
SOWP self-submission Entire Process/Experience:
Hello Everyone, Here I am going to share my experience and the complete process of submitting my SOWP by ourselves (not via any agency), a bit lengthy sit relax and read it.
Disclaimer: I won’t say everyone should follow the below steps. I have done this and sharing my experience with others with good intentions; the below steps are an outcome of a successful attempt. Any decision that you take should be solely owned by you/yourself.
BACKGROUND:
My spouse has got a study visa and pursuing her online course from India (Jan intake 2021). Not going to talk about her application process as this is irrelevant to this audience. (her application we processed via agency as its matter of few 1 or 2K rupees)
MY SOWP PROCESS:
While we initiated the process for my wife, we explored the options via an agency, most of the agencies are taking 250CAD – 400CAD as their processing fees; few agencies detect in rupees approximately from 15K to 35K. We have reviewed every agency, and we found at least few negative feedbacks with agencies on their processing.
We have seen numerous YouTube videos and gathered the information required to submit my file. Decided to submit the SOWP by ourselves without relying on the agency.
(kindly note – if you are not confident on how to submit your files on your own, better go with the agency)

We have created a folder called “Visa documents” and collected all the files and kept it. Do understand we didn’t collect the entire document in a single day, we started to work on the documents right after couple of weeks submitting my wife student visa.
My wife got her visa, we started pushing with our pending items and got all the checklist covered. Now we have all the document,
UPFRONT MEDICAL:
I have done my Upfront medical and got the recipient which needs to be uploaded to the application from the hospital. And added this document to my “Visa documents” folder.
DOCUMENT PREPARATION/CONSOLIDATION:
Do note all the document that you need to upload should be less than 4 MB,
- Document 1:
We put all the collected documents for Proof of relationship in a word Document.
For chat – we took screenshots and kept 6 screenshots on a single page; on some pages, we even kept 8 screenshots. So, we showed total 4 pages of WhatsApp chat (approximately 4*8 = 40 screenshots)
We showed 4 pages of the Facebook chat (since we didn't have much conversation in FB, we used Skype chat history)
Photos – we have kept 6 to 8 pictures on a single page, even more, some pages had 4photos etc. try to keep more pictures in less page, at the end – you don't want to keep all the photos and increase the file size. The best is to transfer the image via WhatsApp chat which will reduce the photo's size. Then, we took that screenshot and kept it in the file to manage the file size.
I gave expensive gifts, so we collected all the gift bills and added that too; validate the invoices contains your name or your spouse name (just submitting some random bills without any name stands void)
The word document came around 27 pages with the size of 20MB something and did the print from Word to Adobe. Which we got the adobe file size as 6MB something. We used the online compressor in which we got 3.98 MB something. We are good with this document and kept it ready.
- Document 2:
We have put all the collected documents for client information:
Statement of Explanation Letter – I did cover key points. My wife can’t survive alone in Canada. Long-distance relationship will not work for us. My wife needs my support for morally & financially, and I will return to India to manage my wife’s property.
The rest of the documents are straightforward – educational document, work experience, financial document. In the CA letter, I have added my assets, my wife's assets. I have also added property details under immovable assets (assets were in my wife’s parents name). Adding property asset details will be an added value, giving you a strong reason to come back to manage your asset.
Fund – I showed 10LK in savings + 4 LK in FD + 4 LK (in a mutual fund, life insurance, PF etc.,)
Note: Unusual cash inflow or deposit should be provided with statement letter or fund explanation.
Note: Unusual cash inflow or deposit should be provided with statement letter or fund explanation.
Spouse Statement of Explanation Letter – Again, she did cover the key points, that she needs my presence beside her to support her morally and financially. The rest of the documents under her section are straightforward.
We have put everything on the single document – this came to 50 pages, and the file size was more than 49 MB in a word document. When we converted to PDF, it has come around 8 or 9 MB; compressing this PDF file is not an option as it has reduced the quality of all the images and content. Hence, we used the Adobe PDF editor trial version for 7 days and arranged everything in the PDF editor and bought the file size to 3.99MB.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
with referenced video we started the application, uploaded document as follows:
IMM 1295 – we got the template from site itself, use Internet explorer (chrome doesn’t work). Filled and uploaded the online application.
IMM 5707 – downloaded and uploaded (note this document required 2nd page to be filled in local language name)
Passport file – Front page, back page with address.
Digital Photo – I have uploaded one digital photo image. (for digital photo refer the descriptions from IRCC website)
